Darrel began working in web design long before websites became slick, responsive and full of clever animations. Back then, websites were slower, screens were smaller and everyone seemed to think adding a spinning logo was a good idea.

Since then, he has built a career around helping businesses create websites that look great, work properly and generate enquiries. His experience covers creative design, front-end development, WordPress, ecommerce, SEO, bespoke systems and digital consultancy.

WordPress has become one of Darrel’s core specialisms. He has built everything from clean brochure websites and WooCommerce stores through to complex booking platforms, quote systems, calculators, loyalty programmes, customer portals and bespoke plugins.

Darrel enjoys pushing WordPress beyond the standard template website. If a client asks, “Can WordPress do this?”, the answer usually involves a cup of tea, thinking, a few tests and eventually something that works beautifully.

Darrel understands that a website is only valuable if the right people can find it. His experience in SEO and digital marketing means projects are built with visibility, structure and long-term performance in mind.

From local SEO pages and content planning to technical optimisation and conversion-focused design, Darrel looks at websites as business tools, not just visual projects.

Over the years, Darrel’s knowledge has seen him speak at universities, train aspiring web designers, work at consultancy level and support many design agencies behind the scenes.

He has been brought into projects to solve technical issues, advise on direction, support development teams and help businesses make better digital decisions without unnecessary jargon.

Now into his 50s, Darrel is still genuinely excited by new technology. Rather than fearing AI, he is embracing it as a way to create smarter web applications, improve workflows and build tools that would have taken far longer only a few years ago.

For Darrel, AI does not replace creativity or experience. It gives experienced people sharper tools and opens up new ways to solve business problems online.

Darrel lives in Walton on Thames with his wife, two sons and cat. During the week he designs, builds, advises and problem-solves.

At weekends, he becomes a surprisingly busy taxi service, ferrying his two sons around to cricket, golf, events, activities and last-minute plans he was apparently told about ages ago.
